Is the XA Pro 3D V9 GTX worth $170?

If you want a stable, waterproof trail shoe for rough ground, yes. If you mostly run fast on smooth trails, lighter shoes cost less and feel quicker.

How does it differ from the non-GTX XA Pro 3D V9?

The GTX version adds a Gore-Tex membrane for waterproofing. It is warmer and dries more slowly, so the plain version suits hot, dry conditions better.

Does it fit true to size?

It fits true to length but runs narrow. Runners with wide feet should size up or try the wide version.

Is it good for hiking as well as running?

Yes. The chassis, toe protection and grip make it a solid light hiker, though the firm ride is built around trail running.

It rarely drops far below list. Watch for end-of-season and colorway clearance, when discounts of 20 to 30 percent are common.

Our take on the Salomon Mens XA Pro 3D V9 Gore-Tex

The Salomon XA Pro 3D V9 GTX is a waterproof trail shoe built for stability and protection on technical ground. At $170 at REI as of November 4, 2026, it sits near the top of its recent range, so it is not a bargain moment.
