Our take on the Samsonite Ascella 4 Expandable Spinner

The Ascella 4 is Samsonite's mid-tier softside spinner, sold as a single case with four multidirectional wheels and a zippered expansion panel. It weighs 10.3 lb, which is heavy for its class, so it suits checked travel more than carry-on duty on strict airlines. At $107.99 at JCPenney as of November 5, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range, well under typical list pricing.

Questions and answers

Is the Ascella 4 worth it at $107.99?
That is a low price for a Samsonite spinner with expansion. Comparable softside spinners from lesser brands often sell near this, so the brand support makes it a fair buy at $107.99 at JCPenney as of November 5, 2026.
How does it compare with the Ascella 3?
The Ascella 4 is the newer generation, with the same softside spinner layout and expansion. Improvements are mainly in wheels and trim rather than a redesign, so an Ascella 3 at a much lower price is still reasonable.
Is 10.3 lb too heavy for a carry-on?
It is heavy for a carry-on. Many airlines cap carry-on weight around 15 to 22 lb, leaving little for your belongings. It fits checked travel better.
What size is this case?
