Our take on the Samsung Smart TV

This is a Samsung 1080p LED smart TV sold in 24, 27, 32 and 40 inch sizes, with Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, HDMI and USB plus Google Assistant and Alexa support. It is a small, flat, full-HD set aimed at bedrooms, kitchens and secondary rooms rather than a main living-room TV. It carries HDR, though on a 1080p LED panel the effect is modest. No current price was available to compare against its recent range.

Best forBedroom or kitchen setSmall apartment or dorm roomSecond TV for a guest roomBuyers who want built-in Alexa and Google Assistant
Pros
  • Full 1080p resolution instead of the 720p common at this size
  • Works with both Alexa and Google Assistant
  • Wired Ethernet plus Wi-Fi for a stable connection
  • Bluetooth for headphones or a soundbar
  • Multiple sizes from 24 to 40 inches
  • Light: the 40-inch model weighs about 16 lb
Cons
  • 1080p only, no 4K
  • HDR on a small LED panel adds little
  • 60Hz-class panel, not suited to fast gaming
  • Built-in speakers are basic; a soundbar helps

Questions and answers

Is this TV worth it over a cheaper 720p set?
Yes, if you sit close or watch text-heavy content. At 32 and 40 inches the jump from 720p to 1080p is clearly visible.
Should I buy this or a 4K Samsung?
Only buy this if the room is small or the budget is tight. A 4K set makes more sense at 43 inches and up, where 1080p starts to look soft.
Does it have Bluetooth for headphones?
Yes. Bluetooth is listed alongside Wi-Fi, USB, HDMI and Ethernet, so you can pair headphones or a soundbar.
What sizes are available?
24, 27, 32 and 40 inches. The 40-inch model weighs about 16 lb, the 32-inch about 12.8 lb and the 24-inch about 8.4 lb.
Does it work with Alexa and Google Assistant?
Yes, both are supported, so you can control the TV by voice with a compatible speaker or display.
When is it cheapest?
Small TVs like this usually drop during Black Friday, back-to-school and Super Bowl sales. Check the price history before buying outside those windows.
