Our take on the Savotta FDF Sleeping Pad

The Savotta FDF Sleeping Pad is an inflatable mat made for Finnish Defence Forces use and sold to civilians in the same brown build. It measures about 75 by 20 inches, is 0.47 inch thick and weighs 2.1 lb, so it is a thin, light mat rather than a cushioned car-camping pad. At $62.38 at Scandinavian Outdoor as of November 7, 2026, it is the only new price listed, so there is no recent range to compare against.

Best forMilitary and reservist kitUltralight summer ground sleepingBuyers who want a rugged, simple matPairing with a bivy or tarp setup
Pros
  • Thin and light at 2.1 lb for a full-length mat
  • About 75 inches long, enough for tall sleepers
  • Inflatable, so it packs smaller than a foam pad
  • Military-spec construction and subdued brown color
  • Simple design with little to break
Cons
  • Only 0.47 inch thick, so little cushioning on rough ground
  • No insulation rating; not a cold-weather pad
  • Single valve inflation takes some breath
  • One store lists it new, so price shopping is limited

Questions and answers

Is the Savotta FDF Sleeping Pad thick enough for side sleepers?
At about 0.47 inch it is very thin. Side sleepers will likely feel the ground and may want a second pad or a thicker mat.
How warm is it?
It is an uninsulated air mat. It is fine for mild conditions but not for cold ground or winter use.
How long does it take to inflate?
It has a single valve and no pump, so expect to inflate it by mouth in a minute or two.
What are the dimensions and weight?
About 75 by 20 inches, 0.47 inch thick, and 2.1 lb.
Is it the same mat the Finnish army issues?
Savotta sells it as FDF gear, meaning it follows the Finnish Defence Forces pattern. Civilian versions are the same brown mat.
When is it cheapest?
Only one new price is listed: $62.38 at Scandinavian Outdoor as of November 7, 2026. Watch for seasonal sales at Nordic outdoor stores.
