Is the Schlage Encode worth it over a cheaper keypad lock?

Yes if you want remote access and code management without buying a hub. A basic keypad deadbolt costs less but gives no app control, activity log or voice commands.

Does it need a hub or bridge?

No. Wi-Fi is built in, so it joins your 2.4 GHz network directly and works through the Schlage Home app.

How long do the batteries last?

Schlage rates it around six months on four AA batteries, and the app warns you weeks before they run out. Cold weather and frequent motor use shorten that.

Will it fit my existing door?

It replaces a standard deadbolt and uses the same bore holes, so most installs take about 15 minutes with a screwdriver. Check your door thickness and backset first.

Does it work with Apple Home or Matter?

No. It supports Alexa and Google Assistant only, so Apple Home users need a different lock.

Smart locks tend to dip during Black Friday and spring home sales. At $229 as of November 4, 2026, it is at the high end of its range, so waiting for a sale can save money.
