Is the Schlage Encode worth it over the Encode Plus?

The Encode Plus adds Apple HomeKit and Thread support. If you use Apple Home, the Plus is the better buy; for Alexa or Google homes, the standard Encode covers the same basics for less.

No. The Encode connects directly to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, so there is no bridge or hub to buy.

How long do the batteries last?

Schlage rates it around six months on four AA batteries, but heavy Wi-Fi use and frequent remote access shorten that. The lock warns you in the app before the battery dies.

Can I still use a key?

Yes. It ships with a physical key and a standard keyway, so you can open it if the battery dies or Wi-Fi is down.

The deadbolt, interior and exterior assemblies, strike plate, mounting screws, four AA batteries and keys. A screwdriver and drill are needed for installation.

Wi-Fi deadbolts tend to drop around Black Friday and Prime Day. The current $158.00 at eBay as of November 4, 2026 is well below its typical list price.
