- Is the Schlage Encode worth it over the Encode Plus?
- The Encode Plus adds Apple HomeKit and Matter support for a higher price. If you use Alexa or Google and don't need Apple Home, the standard Encode covers the same keyless and remote features for less.
- Does it need a hub or bridge?
- No. The Encode connects directly to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, so you can lock, unlock and manage codes from the Schlage Home app without extra hardware.
- How long do the batteries last?
- Schlage rates the four AA batteries at about six months with typical use. Heavy remote access and cold weather shorten that, and the lock warns you in the app before they die.
- Will it fit my door?
- It replaces a standard deadbolt on doors 1⅝ to 1¾ inches thick with a 2⅛ inch cross bore and 1 inch edge bore. Check your existing backset, which should be 2⅜ or 2¾ inches.
- What's in the box?
- The lock includes the interior and exterior assemblies, Greenwich trim, strike plate, mounting screws, four AA batteries and instructions. You need only a screwdriver.
- When is it cheapest?
- Smart lock prices dip around Black Friday, Prime Day and back-to-school sales. The $158.00 eBay price as of November 4, 2026 is already near the low end of its recent range.
