Our take on the Schluter Systems KK122PVCE Kerdi 48" x 48" PVC Shower Kit with Stainless Steel Drain

The Schluter Kerdi KK122 is a complete waterproofing shower kit: a 48" x 48" EPS foam tray with a center drain hole, a 48" x 6" x 1/2" curb, Kerdi membrane and strip, corners, and a PVC drain with a brushed stainless steel 304 grate. It replaces a mortar bed and a tiled pan with a bonded waterproof membrane system, so the shower can be tiled the same day the tray is set. The tray can be cut down, but only evenly from the perimeter, so the drain stays centered. The best new price is $599.99 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, with four stores listing it new.

Best forDIYers building a curb-and-tile shower from scratchRemodels replacing a leaking mortar-bed panBathrooms sized near 48" x 48" with a center drainBuyers who want a bonded membrane system, not a liner
Pros
  • One box covers tray, curb, membrane, strip, corners and drain
  • EPS tray is light and cuts with a hand saw
  • Kerdi fleece bonds directly to thinset, no liner or weep holes
  • Stainless 304 grate resists rust in a wet room
  • Center drain suits standard rough-in plumbing
Cons
  • Tray is fixed at 48" x 48"; cutting must be even on all sides
  • 57 psi compressive strength means it needs full mortar support underneath
  • PVC drain body, not ABS; check your plumbing
  • Price is high next to a mud bed plus a sheet membrane bought separately
  • Membrane and band quantities are fixed, so odd layouts may need extras

Questions and answers

Is the Kerdi kit worth it over a mud bed?
For most DIYers, yes. It removes the mortar bed and the liner, and the tray, curb and membrane arrive matched. A mud bed plus a sheet membrane can cost less in materials but takes more skill and time.
Can I cut the 48" x 48" tray to fit?
Yes, but cut equal amounts from opposite sides so the drain stays centered. The perimeter height must stay level, so avoid cutting only one edge.
What drain plumbing does it need?
The drain body is PVC with a 2" outlet and a center hole. If your rough-in is ABS, you need the ABS version of the kit or an adapter.
What is in the box?
The 48" x 48" EPS tray, a 48" x 6" x 1/2" curb, 3'3" x 39'4" Kerdi membrane, 5" x 33' Kerdi strip, four inside corners, two outside corners, and the PVC drain with a stainless steel grate.
When is it cheapest?
The best new price was $599.99 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026. Tile-supply stores discount Kerdi kits during remodel-season sales, so compare all four listings before buying.
Where is the Schluter Systems KK122PVCE Kerdi 48" x 48" PVC Shower Kit with Stainless Steel Drain cheapest?
