Our take on the Shall 5-Inch Random Orbital Sander 3.2 AMP 6 Variable Speeds

The Shall 5-Inch Random Orbital Sander is a corded electric sander with a 3.2 amp motor and six variable speed settings. It uses a 5-inch hook-and-loop pad with random orbital action and includes a dust collector. It is a budget-tier tool aimed at occasional sanding, not daily shop use.

Best forHomeowners doing occasional furniture and trim sandingBeginners who want variable speed without spending much
Small paint and drywall touch-up jobs
Buyers who want a dust bag included
Pros
  • Six speed settings let you slow down for finish work
  • 3.2 amp motor is adequate for light to medium sanding
  • Dust collector bag cuts some airborne dust
  • 5-inch pad size is common, so paper is easy to find
  • Corded power means no battery to charge or replace
Cons
  • Cord limits reach and can drag across the work
  • Dust bag catches only part of the dust; a shop vac works better
  • No brushless motor or constant-speed electronics at this tier
  • Build quality and pad life are below pro-grade sanders

What reviewers say

Owner feedback on budget 5-inch random orbital sanders like this one is mixed. Buyers like the low price and variable speed for light jobs, but report weak dust collection and short pad life.

Pros
  • Good value for occasional use
  • Variable speed is useful on softer woods and paint
  • Light and easy to handle one-handed
Cons
  • Dust bag fills fast and leaves dust in the air
  • Hook-and-loop pad wears out and replacement pads are hard to find
  • Motor bogs down under heavy pressure

Questions and answers

Is this sander worth it for a beginner?
Yes, if you sand occasionally. The six speeds and included dust bag cover basic furniture and trim work at a low price. If you sand weekly, a brushless sander from a major brand will last longer.
What sandpaper does it take?
It uses standard 5-inch hook-and-loop discs with 8 holes. That size is sold everywhere, so you are not locked into one brand.
Can I connect it to a shop vac?
The dust port is sized for the included bag. Many owners rig an adapter to a vacuum, but check the port diameter before buying an adapter.
How does it compare with a 2.5 amp sander?
The 3.2 amp motor resists stalling better under pressure. It is still not a replacement for a random orbital sander with a brushless motor and constant speed.
What comes in the box?
The sander, a dust collection bag and usually a few sample sanding discs. A carrying case and extra pads are typically not included.
When is the price lowest?
Budget sanders like this drop most during holiday sales and spring home-improvement promotions. Check the price history before buying outside those windows.
