Does the sensor can need batteries?

Yes. The touchless lid runs on batteries, so plan on replacing them periodically. Battery life depends on how often the lid opens.

What size trash bags fit the 45-liter can?

Use simplehuman code J liners or another bag sized for a 45-liter rectangular can. A standard 13-gallon kitchen bag can work but may sag.

The can stands 24.87 inches high, so check that it clears your counter overhang or cabinet doors.

Is the finish really fingerprint resistant?

simplehuman coats the stainless steel to resist fingerprints. It still wipes clean easily, but dark finishes can show dust between cleanings.

Can the lid be opened without the sensor?

Yes. The lid can be opened manually, which helps when the batteries run low or the sensor misses your hand.
