Our take on the Sonance Mag Series MS10SUB 10" Powered Subwoofer

The Sonance Mag Series MS10SUB is a 10-inch powered subwoofer with a sealed enclosure and a front-firing polypropylene woofer. Its 275-watt RMS amplifier (550 watts peak) reaches down to 27 Hz, and the sealed cabinet keeps bass tight rather than boomy. Controls are limited to volume, phase and power, with a single RCA input and no room-correction or wireless options. It is a straightforward addition for a stereo or home theater system that needs deeper low end without a large box.

Questions and answers

Is the Sonance MS10SUB worth it?
It is a good fit if you want accurate, sealed-box bass in a small to medium room and do not need wireless or room correction. Shoppers wanting maximum output for a large space should look at a 12-inch ported sub.
How does it compare with a ported 10-inch subwoofer?
The sealed cabinet gives tighter, more musical bass with a gentler roll-off, while a ported sub of the same size will usually play louder at the lowest frequencies. Choose the Sonance for accuracy and space, a ported model for output.
What connections does it have?
It has a single RCA line-level input, plus volume, phase and power controls. There are no speaker-level inputs, wireless options or network connectors.
How low does it go?
Sonance rates it from 27 Hz to 250 Hz. In a typical room, expect usable output into the low 30s, which covers most music and movie content.
What is in the box?
The subwoofer and an AC power cable. You will need to supply your own RCA subwoofer cable.
When is it cheapest?
Subwoofers like this tend to drop during major sales events and when a new model replaces it. Check the price history on this page before buying.
