Is the GM II worth it over the original 24-70mm GM?

Yes for most buyers. It is lighter, focuses faster and is sharper wide open, which matters for events and video. The original still works well if you find it much cheaper.

Does it work on APS-C Sony cameras?

Yes, on E-mount APS-C bodies it gives a 36-105mm equivalent range. You pay for full-frame coverage you won't use, so a dedicated APS-C zoom may suit you better.

Does it have image stabilization?

No. It relies on the camera's in-body stabilization, which most recent Sony full-frame bodies have.

How close can it focus?

It focuses to about 0.21m at 24mm and 0.3m at 70mm, close enough for near-macro detail at the wide end.

What comes in the box?

The lens, front and rear caps, a lens hood and a soft case. A tripod collar is not included.

It rarely drops far below its typical street price. The best new price was $1,789.95 at Walmart as of November 7, 2026; watch for bundle and trade-in promotions.
