Is the Sony FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS worth it?

For sports, wildlife and low-light shooters who need f/2.8 at 300mm, the sharpness and light weight justify it. Casual shooters will find $6,598 hard to justify over a slower zoom.

Does it work on APS-C Sony cameras?

Yes, it mounts on Sony E-mount APS-C bodies, where it gives a 450mm equivalent field of view. It is designed for full-frame but works on both.

Does it have image stabilization?

Yes, it has built-in optical stabilization, which helps handheld shooting and pairs with in-body stabilization on newer Sony bodies.

How close can it focus?

The minimum focus distance is 6.6 ft, with a maximum magnification of 0.16x. That is fine for large subjects but not for close-up work.

What filter size does it take?

It uses 1.6-inch (about 40.5mm) filters, a small thread for a lens this size.
