Our take on the Southern Motion Belmont Linen 91" Zero Gravity Triple Power Reclining Sofa with Drop Down Table and USB Charging

The Southern Motion Belmont is a 91-inch, three-seat power reclining sofa with a zero-gravity recline that lifts the legs above the heart and eases pressure on the spine. Each seat has motorized recline, headrest and lumbar adjustment, and a drop-down center table adds two USB charging ports. It is a large, heavy piece at 300 lb and 42 inches deep, so it needs room behind it and a wide doorway to deliver. It is a US-made specialty piece, so expect furniture-store pricing rather than mass-market discounts.

Best forBuyers who want zero-gravity leg elevation for back or circulation comfortHouseholds that want powered headrest and lumbar adjustment, not just reclineFamilies needing a center drop-down table and USB chargingLiving rooms with at least 91 inches of wall space and room to recline
Pros
  • Zero-gravity position raises legs and takes pressure off the lower back
  • Triple power motion: recline, headrest and lumbar each motorized
  • Drop-down center table with built-in USB ports
  • Kiln-dried hardwood seat frames with four metal seat braces
  • Quiet mechanism with Delrin bushings and insulated springs
  • Made in the USA; mechanisms tested to 25,000 cycles
Cons
  • 300 lb and 91 inches wide: hard to move and fit through doors
  • 42-inch depth plus recline clearance eats floor space
  • Three motors per seat mean more parts that can fail than a manual recliner
  • Linen upholstery shows stains and wear faster than leather
  • Power recliners need an outlet within reach of the sofa

Questions and answers

Is zero gravity actually better for my back?
It reclines the seat and raises the legs so the knees sit near or above heart level, which shifts weight off the spine and seat bones. Many buyers with lower-back issues find it more comfortable than a standard recliner, but it is not a medical device.
How much wall clearance does it need?
Plan for several inches behind the sofa plus space for the back to recline; the 42-inch depth grows when fully reclined. Measure the room and the path to it before ordering, since it is 91 inches wide and 300 lb.
Does every seat have power headrest and lumbar?
Yes. Triple power motion covers recline, headrest and lumbar on the seats, so each occupant can adjust independently. The drop-down table with USB ports sits in the center section.
What comes in the box?
The sofa itself, shipped as the Belmont Linen 91-inch zero-gravity triple power reclining sofa. Check whether the retailer includes white-glove delivery and setup, since a 300 lb piece is not a one-person job.
How does it compare with a manual reclining sofa?
You get infinite-position recline plus powered headrest and lumbar, which manual sofas cannot match, at the cost of a power cord, motors and higher price. Manual sofas are lighter and have fewer failure points.
When is the best time to buy?
Furniture promotions cluster around Memorial Day, Labor Day, Black Friday and year-end clearance. Compare the current price against the sofa's recent range before buying, since specialty furniture discounts vary widely by store.
