Our take on the Sundown Audio XV4 XV412D1 12" Dual 1 Ohm Subwoofer
The Sundown Audio XV4 12 is a competition-grade car subwoofer rated at 3000W RMS and 6000W peak, with a dual 1-ohm voice coil that wires to a 2-ohm load. Its 30mm Xmax and 11.75-inch mounting depth point to a heavy motor built for deep, loud bass in a ported box. Sensitivity is low at 83.47 dB, so it needs real amplifier power. It suits SPL and daily-bass builds, not stock electrical systems.
- 3000W RMS rating handles serious amplifier power
- 30mm Xmax allows long excursion for deep bass
- Dual 1-ohm coils wire to a 2-ohm final load
- Stiff competition-style motor and suspension
- Displacement of only 0.23 cu. ft leaves box volume for the port

What reviewers say
Owners of Sundown's XV line generally report it takes rated power and plays very loud without bottoming out in a properly built box. Most complaints center on the power and space it demands rather than sound quality.
- Handles rated power without mechanical noise
- Very loud output for the money
- Solid build quality and terminals
- Needs a large, well-braced enclosure
- Demands high-current electrical upgrades
- Low sensitivity makes cheap amps struggle

Questions and answers
- Is the XV4 12 worth it over the SA series?
- The XV4 is a step up in power handling and excursion over Sundown's SA line, aimed at louder SPL builds. If you run under about 1500W, the SA is the better match.
- What size box does the XV4 12 need?
- Sundown specs recommend a ported enclosure, typically around 2 to 2.5 cu. ft net tuned near 32-35 Hz. It needs 11.75 inches of mounting depth plus clearance for the motor.
- What amplifier power should I use?
- Plan for 3000W RMS at 2 ohms, with clean power and a subsonic filter. Low 83.47 dB sensitivity means a weaker amp will not get it loud.
- Can I wire the dual 1-ohm coils to 1 ohm?
- No. Two 1-ohm coils wire in parallel to 0.5 ohm or in series to 2 ohms. Use the 2-ohm series wiring unless your amp is stable at 0.5 ohm.
- What is in the box?
- The subwoofer only. Gaskets, screws and terminal hardware are not included, so plan on buying mounting hardware separately.
