Is Super Mario Galaxy worth buying in 2026?

Yes if you still play Wii games or want a physical copy of a landmark platformer. It holds up well, though the motion controls show their age.

How does it compare to Super Mario Galaxy 2?

Galaxy 2 refines the formula with tighter levels and Yoshi, but the first game has the stronger story and sense of discovery. Many players prefer the original.

Do I need a Nunchuk to play it?

Yes. The game uses the Wii Remote and Nunchuk together; the remote points at the screen and the Nunchuk handles movement.

Does it work on the Wii U?

Yes. The Wii U plays Wii discs through its Wii mode, so the disc works there too.

Used copies are usually the cheapest route. Among new listings, $22.99 at Tyton Games as of November 5, 2026 is near the low end of its recent range.
