Is this comforter warm enough for winter?

It is a light-to-medium weight comforter. Most people use it alone in spring and fall and add a blanket in winter. Hot sleepers may find it too warm.

Does it need a duvet cover?

No. The quilted microfiber shell is meant to be used on its own. A cover helps keep it clean and changes the look.

It is cheaper and allergy-friendly, but heavier and less breathable than real down. It also will not loft as high.
