Is the Plethora X5 worth it over buying separate TC pedals?

If you use three or more TC TonePrint effects, the X5 usually costs less than the individual pedals and saves board space. Buy separate pedals if you want more than five effects on at once or prefer physical knobs per effect.

Does it have amp modeling?

No. It is a multi-effects unit only, though it includes cabinet simulation for running direct. You still need an amp, preamp pedal or modeler in front of it.

How many effects can I run at once?

Five at a time, one per footswitch slot. You can store 40 boards and change the effect type in any slot, but the five-at-once limit is fixed.

Can I edit it from my phone?

Yes. Bluetooth pairs with the TonePrint app for loading and tweaking presets. USB also connects it to a computer for preset management.

Does it work in a stereo rig and with MIDI?

Yes. It has stereo inputs and outputs, an effects loop, MIDI in and MIDI thru, so it fits stereo amps and MIDI switching setups.

When is the best time to buy?

The best new price was $325 at Music Store US as of November 4, 2026. Watch for holiday sales, when multi-effects units often drop.

Our take on the TC Electronic Plethora X5 TonePrint Multi-Effects Pedalboard

The Plethora X5 is a compact, stereo multi-effects pedalboard built around TC's TonePrint engine. It holds up to five effects at once from a library of TonePrint pedals, with 40 boards to store setups, customizable signal chain routing, an effects loop, MIDI in/thru, USB and Bluetooth for beaming TonePrint presets from a phone. It is not an amp modeler, so it suits players who already like their amp and want a flexible pedalboard replacement. The best new price is $325 at Music Store US as of November 4, 2026, with 4 stores listing it new.
