Is Breath of the Wild worth buying in 2026?

Yes, if you want a large single-player adventure on Switch. It still plays well and remains one of the platform's defining games, though it is often discounted less than other first-party titles.

Should I buy this or Tears of the Kingdom?

Tears of the Kingdom is the sequel and adds sky islands, caves and building mechanics. Breath of the Wild is simpler and cheaper, so start here if you have not played either.

Does it work on the original Switch and Switch Lite?

Yes. It runs on every Switch model, including the Lite in handheld mode. The cartridge also works in a Switch 2.

What is included in the standard edition?

Just the game cartridge and case. The Expansion Pass, which adds extra content, is sold separately and is not on the cartridge.

It goes on sale around major retail events and holidays, often to $40–$45. The current $49.49 at Target as of November 4, 2026 is a normal price, not a deep discount.

Our take on the The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Breath of the Wild is Nintendo's open-world Zelda for Switch, built around climbing, gliding and exploring Hyrule in any order. It drops the series' old item-gated dungeons for about 120 shrines, four Divine Beasts and a physics system that rewards experimentation. The best new price is $49.49 at Target as of November 4, 2026, close to the $50–$60 it has held for years; it rarely drops far below $40 even on sale.
