Our take on the Theodore Alexander Castle Bromwich Bowfront Country D Shape 44" Console Table

The Theodore Alexander Castle Bromwich is a traditional D-shaped console table, 44 inches wide, 16 inches deep and 38 inches tall, with a single drawer and a bowfront face. It is a tall, narrow hall piece built for entryways and corridors where depth is tight. Theodore Alexander is a high-end furniture maker, so expect solid-wood construction and a hand-finished brown veneer rather than flat-pack materials. Buyers who want a single-drawer catch-all table
Pros
  • Tall 38-inch height suits standing-height display and lamps
  • Shallow 16-inch depth fits tight hallways
  • Bowfront D shape softens a plain rectangular wall
  • Single drawer keeps keys and mail out of sight
  • Traditional styling matches period and country rooms
Cons
  • 44-inch width limits it to a fairly wide wall
  • One drawer only; little closed storage
  • 57 lb means two people to move and position
  • High-end brand pricing; not a budget piece
  • Brown finish may not suit pale or modern palettes

Questions and answers

Is this console table worth the price?
It is a luxury-brand piece, so you pay for solid construction and hand finishing rather than volume. If you want a long-lasting traditional hall table, it fits. If you want cheap storage, a mass-market console costs far less.
Will it fit in a narrow hallway?
Yes. At 16 inches deep it leaves most of a standard 36-inch hallway clear. The 44-inch width is the limit to check against your wall and door swings.
What is the D-shape bowfront for?
The curved front gives the table a softer profile than a flat rectangle and adds a little display surface. It also means the back edge is straight, so it sits flush against a wall.
How tall is it compared with a standard console?
At 38 inches it is taller than most consoles, which usually run 30 to 34 inches. That suits lamp and vase display but puts the drawer higher for seated use.
What is in the box?
Typically the table arrives assembled or in a few large pieces with hardware. Confirm delivery and assembly terms with the seller, since a 57 lb piece may ship by freight.
When is it cheapest?
High-end furniture rarely discounts deeply, but seasonal sales and floor-sample clearances are the usual windows. Set a price alert and compare across stores rather than buying at first sight.
