Our take on the Three Posts Flatiron Oriental Gray Area Rug

The Three Posts Flatiron is a synthetic, Oriental-pattern area rug in gray with taupe, ice blue, dark blue, cream, rust, mustard and charcoal accents. It is machine-made, stain-resistant and listed in a 7 ft square size, which suits larger square rooms better than long narrow ones. It is a Wayfair Verified item with a 4.5 average from about 5,900 ratings, so it has a deep record of owner feedback. No current price was supplied, so check the live listing before deciding.

Best forLiving rooms or dining areas that need a 7 ft square footprintHouseholds with kids or pets who want a stain-resistant, low-maintenance rugBuyers who want an Oriental look without paying for a hand-knotted wool rugRooms with gray, blue or rust furniture that the multicolor palette can tie toge
Pros
  • Stain-resistant synthetic pile is easy to spot-clean
  • Oriental pattern in gray with blue, cream, rust and mustard reads as a designed piece, not a plain neutral
  • Square 7 ft shape fills open floor plans and under-square seating groups
  • Large base of about 5,900 ratings at 4.5 suggests consistent satisfaction
  • Synthetic construction keeps the price well below wool Oriental rugs
Cons
  • Synthetic pile will not match the feel or longevity of hand-knotted wool
  • Busy multicolor pattern can clash with strong existing patterns
  • Square shape limits use in narrow rooms and hallways
  • Exact pile height and backing are not stated, so check before placing under doors
  • Gray-and-blue palette may look cooler in person than on screen

Questions and answers

Is the Flatiron rug worth it?
For a large, stain-resistant rug at a synthetic price, it is a sensible buy, and the 4.5 average across about 5,900 ratings backs that up. Skip it if you want wool softness or a one-of-a-kind hand-knotted piece.
How does it compare with a wool Oriental rug?
It costs far less and resists stains better, but the synthetic pile is thinner and less soft, and it will not age into a family heirloom. Choose wool if feel and longevity matter more than price.
What sizes does it come in?
The listed spec is a 7 ft square. Check the live listing for other sizes before ordering, since square rugs fit different rooms than the usual 8x10 rectangle.
Does it work over carpet or on hardwood?
Yes on both, but add a rug pad on hardwood to stop slipping and to soften the thin synthetic pile. On carpet, a pad mainly keeps the edges flat.
How do I clean it?
Vacuum regularly and blot spills with mild soap and water; the stain-resistant treatment helps but does not make it stain-proof. Avoid machine washing and harsh bleach.
When is it cheapest?
Wayfair runs frequent markdowns and clearance events, so compare the current price with its recent range before buying. No price was available for this listing, so check the live page.
