Our take on the Valla Barrel Linen Upholstered Accent Chair, Dark Brown

The Valla Barrel Linen Accent Chair is a compact upholstered armchair with a curved barrel back, sized at 30 inches long, 35 inches high and 28.25 inches wide. The dark brown linen-look fabric and rounded silhouette suit reading corners, bedroom seating and small living rooms where a full-size chair won't fit. It is a single accent chair, not a recliner or a swivel chair, so expect fixed seating with a modest footprint.

Best forSmall living rooms and apartmentsBedroom reading cornersPairing with a sofa as extra seatingBuyers who want a warm, dark neutral fabric
Pros
  • Curved barrel back gives a snug, enclosed feel
  • Compact 30 by 28.25 inch footprint fits tight spaces
  • Dark brown fabric hides everyday marks better than light linen
  • Works as a standalone accent or a pair flanking a sofa
Cons
  • Fixed frame: no swivel, recline or adjustable headrest
  • Linen-look upholstery stains and pills more than leather or performance fabric
  • 35 inch height is low-backed for taller sitters
  • Dark brown limits pairing with cool-toned or very light rooms

Questions and answers

Is the Valla barrel chair comfortable for long sitting?
It is an accent chair built for short sits, reading and conversation rather than all-day lounging. The curved back supports the shoulders, but there is no lumbar adjustment or recline.
Will it fit in a small apartment living room?
Yes. At 30 inches long and 28.25 inches wide it takes up less floor than a standard armchair. Leave a few inches around it so the barrel back doesn't crowd a walkway.
What is the chair made of?
The upholstery is a linen-type fabric in dark brown over a padded frame. Treat spills quickly, since linen blends absorb liquid and can water-spot.
Does it come as a set or a single chair?
It is sold as one accent chair. If you want a matching pair for a seating arrangement, order two.
How do I clean the dark brown linen upholstery?
Vacuum it with a soft brush attachment and blot spills with a damp cloth rather than rubbing. Check the care label before using any upholstery shampoo.
