Our take on the Varstrom DP C18 E-Bike Display Full Color LCD Screen

The Varstrom DP C18 is a full-color LCD replacement display for Bafang e-bike kits that use the UART protocol. It shows speed, trip distance and time on a large high-contrast color screen, with ECO and SPORT ride modes, a battery level readout and a USB port for charging a phone. A light sensor dims or brightens the 5-level backlight automatically. It is a plug-in upgrade for riders who want a clearer screen than a basic black-and-white display, and it will not work on CAN-bus Bafang systems.

Questions and answers

Will it work with my Bafang motor?
Only if your kit uses the UART communication protocol. Bafang systems that run CAN-bus will not talk to this display, so check the connector and protocol before buying.
Is it hard to install?
No. It plugs into the existing display connector and the five-button keypad handles setup, so most riders swap it in minutes.
Does it show battery percentage?
It gives an intelligent battery level indication rather than a precise percentage, so treat it as a gauge, not an exact figure.
Can I charge my phone from it?
Yes, there is a USB port on the display. Charging pulls power from the e-bike battery, so it shortens your range slightly.
What does the screen show?
Speed, trip distance and time, plus assist mode and battery level. There is no navigation or smartphone pairing.
Is it worth replacing a working display?
Only if you want a color screen and USB charging. A working stock display already covers speed and battery, so the gain is mostly readability.
