Will the DZ40 work with my Bafang BBS02B?

Yes. Varstrom lists the BBS01B, BBS02B and BBSHD as compatible, along with hub motors using the same UART protocol. Check that your controller uses a UART connector, not CAN-bus.

Is it worth it over the stock display?

If your original display failed or you want a smaller unit, it is a low-cost swap that keeps the core readouts. You give up color, navigation and app features.

Can I change the top speed?

Yes. The speed limit is adjustable from 10 to 60/99 m/h in the settings. Local e-bike speed rules still apply on public roads.

It carries an IP65 rating, which covers rain and splashes. Do not submerge it or pressure-wash it.

Expect the display unit and its connection cable. Mounting hardware and manuals vary by seller, so confirm with the listing before ordering.

Small e-bike displays like this tend to dip during seasonal sales and off-season winter months. Compare the current price against its recent range before buying.

Our take on the Varstrom DZ40 Mini Display LCD Screen

The Varstrom DZ40 is a 1.3-inch LCD display for e-bike systems, built around Bafang-style UART controllers such as the BBS01B, BBS02B, BBSHD and hub motors. It shows speed in mph or km/h, assist level 0-5, a smart battery indicator and a configurable speed limit from 10 to 60/99 m/h. The small ABS housing is rated IP65, so it handles rain and splashes. It is a budget-friendly replacement or upgrade display rather than a full-featured color computer.
