Do I need a box spring with the Andes bed?

No. The bed ships with a slat system that supports a mattress directly, so a box spring is optional. A low-profile foundation can still raise the mattress height if you prefer a taller bed.

What sizes does the Andes come in?

Twin, Full/Double, Queen, King and California King. The Queen is the most common pick for a primary bedroom; Twin and Full suit guest rooms.

Is the frame solid wood?

No. The frame is engineered wood with an upholstered, velvet-covered headboard. That keeps the cost down but makes it less durable than a solid hardwood frame.

How do I clean the velvet upholstery?

Vacuum it regularly with a soft brush attachment and blot spills right away with a clean cloth. Avoid soaking the fabric; check West Elm's care guidance before using any upholstery cleaner.

Is the Andes bed good for a guest room?

Yes, especially in Twin or Full. The upholstered look softens a small room, and the slat base means you don't need to buy a box spring.

When is the best time to buy it?

West Elm runs seasonal furniture sales, and upholstered beds are often included. Compare the current price against its recent range before buying.

Our take on the West Elm Andes Queen Bed

The Andes is West Elm's upholstered platform bed, built on an engineered wood frame with a velvet-covered, tufted headboard and a slat support system. It comes in Twin through California King, so the same look works in a guest room or a primary suite. The slats mean no box spring is needed. Shoppers comparing upholstered beds usually weigh it against solid-wood or leather options at similar prices.
