Our take on the Woods Outbound Dome Person Tent with Screen Room

The Woods Outbound is an 8-person dome tent with a screen room, sold in gray. The screen room adds a bug-free sitting area or gear storage separate from the sleeping space, which is unusual at this size. It is a car-camping tent, not a backpacking one. Shoppers rate it 3.7 out of 5 from 18 ratings, so reception is mixed; check the current price against its recent range before buying.

Best forFamilies or groups of up to six sleeping plus gear
Car campers who want a covered sitting area
Warm-weather trips where ventilation matters
Buyers who want one large tent instead of a tent plus canopy
Pros
  • Screen room keeps bugs off seating and gear
  • 8-person capacity fits a large family
  • Dome shape sheds rain and stands up to wind better than cabin tents
  • Gray color hides dirt and stays cooler in sun
  • Single purchase covers sleeping and living space
Cons
  • Large packed size and heavy; not for backpacking
  • Fewer than 20 ratings, so feedback is thin
  • Dome walls cut usable headroom at the edges
  • Setup takes two people at this size
  • Screen room mesh offers little privacy or warmth

Questions and answers

Is the Woods Outbound tent worth it?
If you car camp with a family and want a screen room without buying a separate canopy, it is a reasonable pick. With a 3.7 rating from 18 reviews, read the specific complaints before committing.
How many people does it really sleep?
It is rated for 8, but that assumes sleeping bags side by side. For comfortable sleeping plus gear, plan on 4 to 6 people.
Can one person set it up?
It can be done, but a dome this size is much easier with two people, especially in wind. Practice pitching it at home first.
Does the screen room have a floor?
Check the listing for the specific model year; screen rooms on tents this size sometimes have a partial or no floor. A groundsheet is a cheap safeguard.
Is it good in rain and wind?
A dome handles wind better than a cabin tent, but seam-seal it and use all guylines. Some owners report leaks in heavy rain, so bring a tarp.
When is it cheapest?
Tents like this usually drop in late summer and around end-of-season sales. Our price history shows whether the current price is near its low.
What do buyers say about the Woods Outbound Dome Person Tent with Screen Room?
