Which is better for a hot sleeper?

The Zinus. It adds a cooling gel infusion and is explicitly aimed at hot sleepers, while the IULULU relies on standard gel foam with a green tea infusion.

Is the Zinus worth about $20 more?

Only if you want the cooling gel and OEKO-TEX cover. Both are 6-inch medium gel memory foam twins with 10-year warranties, so the core sleep is similar.

Which has a washable cover?

The IULULU. Its quilted poly jacquard cover zips off for cleaning. The Zinus cover is poly jacquard but not listed as removable.

Are these good for a kid's room or guest bed?

Both suit a light-use twin bed, but Zinus lists its mattress for adults, not kids. For a child, check the specific model's age guidance before buying.

How long do they take to expand?

The IULULU expands within 72 hours, though buyers report full size within minutes. Zinus ships rolled in a box and expands over about a day.

Do either need a box spring?

Neither requires one. Both work on a slatted frame or platform; Zinus lists a box spring as a compatible foundation, not an included item.
