About the Dalstrong 5-Piece Knife Block Set

This is a five-piece Dalstrong set from the Quantum 1 series, built around BD1N-VX high-carbon steel blades hardened to 63+ HRC and set in G10 and carbon-fiber hybrid handles. The blades are forged, full tang and hand sharpened to 8-12 degrees per side, with a tall profile for knuckle clearance. The set includes a knife block. At $250 at eBay as of November 6, 2026, it sits at the top of its recent range; only two stores list it new, so there is little room to shop the price down.

Cons
  • Very hard steel at 63+ HRC is brittle and chips if used carelessly
  • Steep edge angle needs more frequent honing and careful technique
  • Only two stores list it new, so price competition is thin
  • The bold Nova Prime pattern and Dragon Skin texture are polarizing
  • No steak or utility knife sizes spelled out beyond the five pieces

What reviewers say

  • 4.9 / 515 ratings

Buyers rate it 4.9 out of 5 across 15 ratings, with praise centered on sharpness out of the box and the solid, weighty feel of the forged blades. Complaints are few and mostly about the aggressive styling and the care a very hard edge demands.

What people mention

  • BuildPraisedThe forged, full-tang blades feel substantial and balanced.
  • HandlesPraisedThe G10 and carbon-fiber handles are described as grippy and water resistant.
  • StylingMixedSome buyers love the Nova Prime pattern and Dragon Skin texture; others find it busy.
  • Edge careCriticisedThe hard 63+ HRC steel and steep angle mean chips are possible and honing is needed often.

Questions and answers

Is the Dalstrong Quantum 1 set worth $250?
At $250 at eBay as of November 6, 2026, you pay for forged BD1N-VX steel at 63+ HRC and G10 handles, which is a step above most sets at this price. If you want a hard, long-lasting edge and like the styling, it is fair value.
How does it compare with a German knife set?
German sets usually run softer steel around 56-58 HRC, which is tougher but dulls faster. This Dalstrong set holds an edge longer but is more prone to chipping, so it rewards careful use.
Do the knives need special care?
Hand wash and dry them rather than putting them in the dishwasher, and hone regularly. The 8-12 degree edge is thin, so avoid frozen food, bones and hard squash.
What is included in the five pieces?
The set is a knife block set with five pieces plus the block. Check the listing for the exact knife types before buying if you need a specific size.
When is the best time to buy?
With only two stores listing it new, discounts are rare. Watch for holiday sales, since the current $250 is at the top of its recent range.
