Questions and answers

Is the Henkeliving 13-piece knife set worth it?

For a starter kitchen or a rental, yes. At $29.99 at Walmart as of November 7, 2026, it costs less than most single chef's knives of decent quality. Expect budget-level edge retention and handle feel.

Are the blades real German steel?

The listing calls them high-carbon stainless steel, not German-made steel from a named mill. Treat the German reference as marketing and judge it as a budget stainless set.

Do the knives rust?

High-carbon stainless can spot if left wet. Hand wash and dry them right away, and skip the dishwasher to keep the edges and handles in shape.

How does the built-in sharpener work?

You pull each knife through the slots in the block. It is fine for quick touch-ups, but it removes metal each time, so use it sparingly rather than every week.

What is in the box?

Thirteen pieces: the knife block with sharpener plus a chef's knife, slicer, bread knife, utility and paring knives, steak knives and kitchen shears or a similar accessory, depending on the set.

When is the price lowest?

It has been hovering near $30 across six stores. Watch for holiday and back-to-school sales, when block sets like this often drop a few dollars.
