Is MERV 8 enough for a home with pets?

Yes for pet dander and hair, which MERV 8 captures. If you also want smoke or fine dust control, step up to MERV 11 or 13.

How often should I change it?

The manufacturer rates it for up to 90 days. Change sooner if you run the fan constantly, have pets, or see visible dust on the media.

Will the actual size fit my 24x30x2 slot?

It measures 23-7/8 x 29-7/8 x 1-3/4 in., slightly under the nominal size. That is normal and leaves room for the filter to slide in.
