Is MERV 13 too restrictive for my furnace?

It can be. MERV 13 adds resistance, and systems with low-static blowers or narrow returns may lose airflow. Check your system's maximum MERV rating or ask an HVAC tech before switching.

How often should I change it?

3M's guidance is roughly every 3 months for MERV 13, sooner with pets, heavy dust or smoke. The Filtrete Smart App can send reminders.

Measure the filter slot, not the old filter's label. This 2-pack comes in 16x25x5, 20x20x4, 20x25x4 and 20x25x5, and sizes are nominal.

Does it work with the Filtrete Smart App?

Yes. The app supports filter-change reminders, and some versions pair with a sensor to track filter life.

Is $35.99 for two a good price?

That is the best new price across 2 stores as of November 7, 2026, or about $18 per filter. Deep-pleat MERV 13 filters usually cost more than 1-inch MERV 8 filters, so it is a fair price for the rating.

What reviewers say

Owners of Filtrete MERV 13 deep-pleat filters generally report cleaner air and less visible dust, and they like the longer service life of the thick pleat. The common complaints are the higher price and airflow drop in systems not built for a restrictive filter.
