Our take on the Ariens Platinum RapidTrak 28 SHO (28") 389cc Two-Stage Snow Blower

The Ariens Platinum RapidTrak 28 SHO is a two-stage, tracked gas snow blower with a 28-inch clearing width, 21-inch intake height and a 389cc Ariens AX engine. Its RapidTrak system switches between three track positions: track mode for grip on slopes, wheel mode for easier steering, and dig-in mode for hard-packed snow. It adds heated handgrips, LED headlights and electric start, and at 283 lb it is a heavy machine built for big driveways and long winters. The best new price is $3,059.10 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026, with only one store listing it new.

Questions and answers

Is the RapidTrak 28 SHO worth the price?
If you clear a long or sloped driveway in a heavy-snow area, the track drive and 389cc engine justify the cost. For a short, flat driveway, a lighter wheeled two-stage does the job for less.
How is RapidTrak different from a wheeled snow blower?
RapidTrak has three positions: track mode for maximum grip, wheel mode for easier turning, and dig-in mode that presses the auger into hard-packed snow. Wheeled models are simpler and lighter but slip more on inclines.
What does SHO mean on this model?
SHO stands for high-output. It pairs the 389cc engine with a faster-turning impeller and serrated steel augers to move more snow per pass than the standard Platinum.
Does it have electric start?
Yes. It has a 120V electric start in addition to a recoil pull start, so you plug it in for cold starts and use the pull cord when no outlet is nearby.
How much space does it need for storage?
It is 36 inches tall and 283 lb, so plan for garage or shed space with room to pivot the tracks. It is not a machine you carry up stairs or store in a tight corner.
When is it cheapest?
Snow blowers usually discount in late winter and early spring as dealers clear inventory. The current best new price is $3,059.10 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026, from a single listing.
Where is the Ariens Platinum RapidTrak 28 SHO (28") 389cc Two-Stage Snow Blower cheapest?
At Walmart, for $3,059.10, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Ariens Platinum RapidTrak 28 SHO (28") 389cc Two-Stage Snow Blower?
