Our take on the Arlo 2K Essential Pan Tilt Outdoor Security Camera

The Arlo Essential Pan Tilt is an outdoor Wi-Fi security camera that pans and tilts to cover a full 360° view, records in 2K, and adds color night vision, motion sensing, two-way audio and a built-in spotlight. It works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant and runs on battery or a wired connection. It sits in Arlo's mid-range: more coverage than the fixed Essential cameras, less than the Pro line. It is rated 4.3 out of 5 from 31 ratings.

Questions and answers

Is the Arlo Essential Pan Tilt worth it over a fixed camera?
If you need to watch a wide area like a driveway or yard, the 360° pan and tilt replaces two or three fixed cameras. For a single doorway, a cheaper fixed Essential camera does the job.
Does it need a subscription?
You can watch live and get alerts without one. Cloud video recording and advanced detection need an Arlo Secure plan, which is sold separately.
How long does the battery last?
Arlo rates it for months on a charge with light use. Frequent panning, live viewing and spotlight use shorten that considerably, so heavy users should wire it.
Does it work with Alexa and Google Assistant?
Yes. You can view the live feed on compatible smart displays and use voice commands with both Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
What's in the box?
The camera, a rechargeable battery, a mounting kit and a charging cable. A power adapter and Arlo Secure plan are not included.
When is it cheapest?
Arlo cameras usually drop around Prime Day, Black Friday and back-to-school sales. Check the price history before buying outside those windows.
What do buyers say about the Arlo 2K Essential Pan Tilt Outdoor Security Camera?
