Is the ROG Ally X worth it over the original Ally?

Yes if battery life and storage matter to you. The Ally X roughly doubles battery capacity and uses a full-size 2280 SSD, at the cost of extra weight and a higher price.

How long does the battery last?

Expect roughly 1.5 to 3 hours in demanding games and longer in lighter titles, depending on TDP and brightness. The 80Wh pack is about twice the original Ally's capacity.

Can I upgrade the SSD?

Yes. It uses a standard M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 slot, so common 1TB and 2TB drives fit without the short 2230 drives the original needed.

Does it run Steam and Game Pass?

Yes. Windows 11 Home runs Steam, Xbox Game Pass, Epic and other launchers, though you may need to install and update them first.

How big and heavy is it?

It is 11.02 inches wide, 4.37 inches tall and 1.37 inches deep, and weighs 23.9 ounces. That is heavier than most handhelds.

The best new price is $1,079.13 at Walmart as of November 5, 2026, with one store listing it new. Watch for holiday sales, when handheld discounts are most common.
