Our take on the Sony PlayStation 5 pro Console 2 TB SSD 4 USB Ports

The PlayStation 5 Pro is Sony's mid-generation upgrade to the PS5, built for 4K TVs and high-refresh displays. It adds a stronger GPU with ray-tracing hardware, AI upscaling Sony calls PSSR, and 2 TB of internal SSD storage, so games load fast and big libraries fit without an add-on drive. The best new price is $1,744.99 at Best Buy as of November 7, 2026, well above the console's $699.99 launch list price, so this is not a good moment to buy.

Best forOwners of 4K 120Hz TVs who want sharper, smoother PS5 gamesPlayers with large digital libraries who need 2 TB of spacePeople upgrading from a base PS5 or PS4 who skipped the first revision
Pros
  • 2 TB SSD holds far more games than the 1 TB base PS5
  • PSSR upscaling sharpens image quality in supported titles
  • Better ray tracing and steadier frame rates in demanding games
  • Runs most PS5 games in a Performance mode at higher resolution
  • Same DualSense features, PS5 library and backward compatibility with PS4
Cons
  • No disc drive included; the add-on drive costs extra
  • No stand in the box
  • Noticeably larger and heavier than the slim PS5
  • Gains are modest on 1080p or 60Hz TVs
  • At $1,744.99 it is far above its $699.99 launch price

What reviewers say

Reviewers treat the PS5 Pro as a real but incremental upgrade: image quality and frame rates improve in supported games, and the 2 TB drive is welcome. Most say the gains matter mainly on large 4K screens, and the missing disc drive and stand draw complaints.

Questions and answers

Is the PS5 Pro worth it over the base PS5?
If you play on a 4K TV with 120Hz support and want sharper images and steadier frame rates, yes. On a 1080p or 60Hz screen the difference is small and the base PS5 is the better value.
Does the PS5 Pro include a disc drive?
No. This model is digital-only. Sony sells a detachable Ultra HD Blu-ray drive separately, and it fits the Pro.
How much storage does it have?
It has a 2 TB internal SSD, double the 1 TB of the base PS5. You can add more with an M.2 NVMe SSD.
Can it play my PS4 and PS5 games?
Yes. It runs the full PS5 library and is backward compatible with most PS4 games, with some titles getting Pro-enhanced modes.
Is $1,744.99 a good price?
No. The PS5 Pro launched at $699.99, and $1,744.99 at Best Buy as of November 7, 2026 is far above that. Wait for stock at list price.
What is in the box?
The console, one DualSense controller, an HDMI cable, a power cord and printed materials. No disc drive and no vertical stand.
Where is the Sony PlayStation 5 pro Console 2 TB SSD 4 USB Ports cheapest?
At Best Buy, for $1,744.99, as of our latest check.
