Is the ASUS VivoBook 15 good for a student?

Yes for basic schoolwork: documents, web research, video calls and streaming run fine on the Core i3 and 8 GB of RAM. Students who need design, video or gaming software should look for more storage and a stronger processor.

Can I leave Windows 10 S mode?

Yes. You can switch to full Windows 10 for free through the Microsoft Store, which lets you install apps from outside the Store. Do it early, since the 128 GB SSD leaves limited room for extra programs.

How much storage does it really have?

The drive is 128 GB, and Windows and preinstalled software take a share of that. Expect noticeably less free space, so plan on cloud storage or an external drive for large files.

Does it have a touchscreen or DVD drive?

No. The 15.6-inch screen is a non-touch Full HD panel, and there is no optical drive. You get USB-C, HDMI, a headphone jack and a memory card reader instead.

Is $483.99 a good price for it?

It is the only new price listed, $483.99 at Newegg as of November 7, 2026, so there is no recent range to compare against. For a 15.6-inch Full HD laptop with 8 GB RAM and an SSD, it sits in the usual budget range.

Can I upgrade the RAM or SSD?

Many VivoBook 15 models allow RAM and storage upgrades, but check the exact configuration before buying. The 128 GB SSD is the part most owners want to replace first.

Our take on the ASUS VivoBook 15 Thin Laptop, 15.6”

The ASUS VivoBook 15 is a budget 15.6-inch laptop with an Intel Core i3, 8 GB of DDR4 RAM and a 128 GB SSD. It covers the basics well: a 1920x1080 screen, USB-C, HDMI, a headphone jack and a memory card reader, with no optical drive and no dedicated graphics. The main trade-offs are the small 128 GB SSD and Windows 10 S, which limits you to Microsoft Store apps until you switch out of S mode. Its best new price is $483.99 at Newegg as of November 7, 2026, the only new price listed.
