Is the Bowflex SelectTech 840 worth it?

For a home gym with limited space, yes. It replaces six kettlebells for about the price of one or two fixed bells. Skip it if you already lift over 40 lbs or need fine weight steps.

How does the weight adjustment work?

Turn the dial to one of six settings: 8, 12, 20, 25, 35 or 40 lbs. The plates lock into the handle, and the change takes a few seconds between sets.

What are the weight increments?

The steps are 8, 12, 20, 25, 35 and 40 lbs. The jumps are uneven, with an 8 lb gap between 12 and 20 lbs, which is coarse for small progressions.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes. The 8 and 12 lb settings work for learning swings and goblet squats, and you can move up without buying new bells. The bulky shape takes some getting used to.

The kettlebell unit itself. The weight plates are built in and selected with the dial, so there are no loose plates to store.
