Is the Bowflex SelectTech 840 worth it?

For a home lifter who wants one bell covering light to moderate loads, yes. At $149 at Amazon as of November 5, 2026, it costs less than buying several fixed kettlebells. Advanced lifters who need more than 40 lbs should look elsewhere.

How does the weight adjustment work?

You turn the dial to the weight marked on the shell, and the internal plates lock or release. It moves in 8-lb steps: 8, 12, 20, 25, 35 and 40 lbs.

What is the maximum weight?

40 lbs. That is enough for beginners and intermediate kettlebell work but light for heavy swings, cleans or presses.

Can I do kettlebell swings with it?

Yes, but keep the motion controlled. The shell is wider than a fixed bell, and the mechanism is not designed to be dropped or slammed.

How does it compare to fixed kettlebells?

It replaces six bells in one unit and saves space, but it is bulkier in the hand and stops at 40 lbs. Fixed bells feel more natural for heavy swings.

When is the best time to buy?

The $149 at Amazon as of November 5, 2026 is already near the low end of its recent range. Watch for holiday sales, when adjustable weights often dip further.
