Is Caron Cloud Cakes worth it?

At $6.75 for 8.5 oz and 760 yd at Yarnspirations as of November 4, 2026, you get a lot of soft worsted yarn per dollar. It suits blankets and shawls more than structured, stitch-defined pieces.

How does it compare to regular Caron Cakes?

Cloud Cakes is polyester with a brushed, fleecy finish, while standard Caron Cakes is a smoother acrylic blend. Cloud Cakes is softer and fuzzier but shows stitch definition less clearly.

What hook and needle size does it use?

The label gauge is 16 single crochet x 20 rows with a 4.5 mm (US 7) hook, and 20 stitches x 26 rows with 4.5 mm (US 7) needles, both per 4 inches.

Can I machine wash and dry it?

Yes. Caron lists Cloud Cakes as machine washable and machine dryable, which makes it practical for blankets and baby-adjacent projects.

How much yarn is in one skein?

Each skein is 8.5 oz (240 g) and 760 yd (695 m), enough for a large shawl or a good share of a throw blanket.
