Our take on the Caron Skinny Cakes Yarn

Caron Skinny Cakes is a light worsted (weight 3, DK) acrylic yarn sold in cake-style skeins with long color runs. The thin gauge and gradual color changes suit lightweight garments, shawls and baby items more than bulky blankets. It is a single-store listing at $11.99 at Etsy as of November 4, 2026, with no other new-price sellers tracked, so there is no recent price range to compare against.

Cons

  • Cakes can collapse or tangle as you near the center pull
  • Limited price competition: only one new listing tracked at $11.99

Questions and answers

Is Caron Skinny Cakes worth it?
At $11.99 at Etsy as of November 4, 2026, it is a reasonable buy if you want a soft DK acrylic with long color runs. If you need bulky, fast blankets, a heavier Caron line will stretch your money further.
What weight is Caron Skinny Cakes?
It is a weight 3, labeled DK and light worsted. Most knitters use US 5–7 needles and crocheters a 4.5–5.5 mm hook.
Is it machine washable?
Yes. It is 100% acrylic, so it can be machine washed on gentle and tumble dried low. Avoid high heat to prevent fuzzing.
How does it compare to Caron Simply Soft?
Both are acrylic and soft, but Skinny Cakes is thinner (weight 3 versus weight 4) and comes in long-run cakes. Choose Skinny Cakes for lightweight drape and Simply Soft for faster, denser projects.
Is $11.99 a good price?
Only one new listing is tracked, at $11.99 at Etsy as of November 4, 2026, so there is no recent range to judge against. Compare per-yard cost with other DK acrylics before buying multiple cakes.
What's in one cake?
