Does the DCS438B come with a battery?

No. It is a bare tool and ships with a blade and wrench only. You need a DeWalt 20V Max battery and charger.

With the right 3-inch blade it cuts metal, conduit, rebar, tile and similar thin materials. It is not a substitute for a full-size circular saw on lumber.

How deep will it cut?

Depth is limited by the 3-inch blade, so expect roughly an inch or less depending on the blade and material. It won't cut thick stock.

Can it make angled cuts?

No. It has no bevel capacity, so cuts are square only.

Is $199 a good price?

It is the best new price found as of November 7, 2026, but it sits at the top of its recent range. Bare-tool prices often drop during DeWalt promotions, so waiting for a sale can pay off.

Which batteries fit it?

Any DeWalt 20V Max Li-Ion pack fits, including the compact 2.0Ah and larger 5.0Ah packs.

Our take on the Dewalt DCS438B

The DeWalt DCS438B is a bare-tool 20V Max cordless cut-off saw with a 3-inch blade and a 20,000 rpm no-load speed. It is a compact, 2.1 lb tool for cutting metal, tile and conduit where a full-size circular saw won't fit, and it takes DeWalt's 20V batteries you may already own. It ships without a battery or charger, so budget for those if you are new to the platform. At $199 at The Home Depot as of November 7, 2026, it sits at the top of its recent range across the four stores that list it new.
