Our take on the Egohome 5 inch Queen Metal Box Spring

The Egohome 5 inch Queen Metal Box Spring is a steel mattress foundation that replaces a traditional wood box spring. It ships flat and needs assembly, and it is not a split design, so the queen frame arrives as one piece. At 5 inches tall it sits lower than most standard 8-9 inch box springs, which suits low-profile beds and platform-style setups. It is a budget option for shoppers who want metal support under an innerspring or hybrid mattress.

Pros
  • Steel frame resists the sag and squeaks common in wood box springs
  • 5 inch height keeps the bed low and works under deep mattresses
  • Flat-packed and lighter to move than a solid wood box spring
  • Queen size fits standard queen bed frames
  • Costs less than most name-brand metal foundations
Cons
  • Requires assembly, which takes time and tools
  • Not split, so a queen arrives as one large piece
  • 3.6 out of 5 average suggests mixed owner satisfaction
  • 5 inch height may be too low for some bed frames
  • Metal can creak if bolts loosen over time

Questions and answers

Is the Egohome 5 inch metal box spring worth it?
It is a reasonable budget pick if you want firm metal support and a low bed height. Expect to assemble it and check the bolts periodically to keep it quiet.
Does it work with any queen mattress?
It fits standard queen mattresses, including innerspring and hybrid models. Foam mattresses work too, but a solid platform or slats may be a better match for all-foam beds.
How tall is it compared with a regular box spring?
It is 5 inches tall, versus roughly 8 to 9 inches for a standard box spring. That lowers the mattress by several inches, so check your bed frame and headboard height first.
Is it a split box spring?
No. The queen size is a single non-split foundation, so it is one large piece to carry and place. Measure hallways and stairwells before ordering.
How hard is assembly?
Assembly is required and involves bolting the metal frame together. Most people finish in under an hour with the included hardware, but it helps to have a second person for the queen size.
When is it cheapest?
Metal box springs like this tend to drop around major sales events and during back-to-school season. Compare the current price against its recent range before buying.
What do buyers say about the Egohome 5 inch Queen Metal Box Spring?
Rated 3.6 out of 5 from 461 ratings.
