Our take on the Foals Sunrise Series SB-45105 Bass Strings 45-130

The Foals Sunrise Series SB-45105 is a coated, roundwound electric bass string set gauged 45-130, aimed at players who want a bright nickel tone with longer string life. The hexcore and nickel-plated steel winding are conventional choices that suit most playing styles. At $21.99 at Foals Guitar as of November 7, 2026, it is the only new price listed, so there is no recent range to compare against.

Questions and answers

Is the 45-130 gauge right for a five-string bass?
Yes. The 45-130 set is built for five-string basses, with a heavy 130 low B that stays tight for standard tuning. It also works for drop tunings on four-string basses if the nut is filed for the wider string.
Do coated strings sound different from uncoated ones?
The coating on these strings slightly softens the highest frequencies, so they sound a touch warmer than plain nickel strings. In return, they usually keep their tone longer before going dead.
Are these strings suitable for slap and fingerstyle?
Yes. Roundwound nickel strings are a common choice for both styles, giving a bright slap tone and clear fingerstyle definition. The coating adds a little smoothness under the fingers.
What is a fair price for this set?
The only new price listed is $21.99 at Foals Guitar as of November 7, 2026. That is low for a coated bass set, so it is a reasonable buy at that price.
Will these strings fit my bass without modification?
They fit most four- and five-string basses with standard 34-inch scale. The 130 low string may need a slight nut slot widening on some instruments.
Where is the Foals Sunrise Series SB-45105 Bass Strings 45-130 cheapest?
At Foals Guitar, for $21.99, as of our latest check.
