Is the fenix 8 51 mm Solar worth it over the AMOLED model?

Pick the Solar if you want the longest battery life and a screen that is always readable in sunlight. Pick AMOLED if you prefer a brighter, more vivid display and do not need maximum runtime.

How long does the battery last?

Garmin rates the 51 mm Solar for weeks in smartwatch mode and days in full GPS mode, with solar extending runtime in good sunlight. Heavy GPS and music use shortens it.

Can I make calls from the watch?

Yes. When paired to your phone inside cellular coverage, the built-in speaker and microphone let you take and make calls from the watch.

Is it suitable for scuba diving?

It is EN13319 dive rated to 40 meters for single-gas scuba and freediving. It is not a replacement for a dedicated technical dive computer.

The watch, a charging/data cable and documentation. No extra band or wall adapter is included.

The best new price seen is $899.95 at eBay as of November 8, 2026. Discounts tend to appear around major sales events and when a successor is announced.
