Our take on the Garvee Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Dog Kennel

The Garvee Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Dog Kennel is a medium rolling crate, 32 inches high and 28 inches wide, built from stainless steel with a black finish. The wheels let you move it between rooms without lifting, and the steel frame is aimed at dogs that chew or push through wire crates. It suits a medium-sized dog rather than a large one, so check your dog's height and length against the 32-by-28-inch opening before buying.

Best forOwners of strong dogs that bend or break wire cratesHouseholds that want to roll the crate between roomsBuyers who prefer steel over plastic or coated wireMedium-sized dogs that stand under about 30 inches at the shoulder
Pros
  • Stainless steel frame resists chewing and bending better than wire
  • Wheels make a heavy crate easy to reposition
  • Black finish looks tidier in a living room than bare metal
  • Medium footprint fits most bedrooms and utility rooms
  • Open-bar design keeps air moving and lets the dog see out
Cons
  • Heavier than a folding wire crate, so stairs are awkward
  • Open bars give little wind or draft protection
  • No divider or crate pad included at this size
  • Medium size will not suit large or giant breeds
  • Wheels can roll on smooth floors unless locked

Questions and answers

What size dog fits the Garvee medium kennel?
The crate is 32 inches high and 28 inches wide, which suits medium dogs. Measure your dog's height at the shoulder and its nose-to-tail length; a dog that stands near 30 inches will be cramped.
Does it have wheels?
Yes, the crate rolls. That makes it easy to move between rooms, but lock the casters on hard floors so it stays put.
Is stainless steel better than a wire crate?
For dogs that chew, bend bars or escape, yes. Stainless steel holds its shape where coated wire bends, but it costs more and weighs more.
Can I use it outdoors?
The open bars give little shelter from wind, rain or sun, so it is better indoors or in a covered, shaded spot. Stainless steel itself resists rust.
What comes in the box?
The crate and its wheels. A crate pad, food bowls and a divider are not included, so budget for a bed that fits the 28-inch width.
When is the price lowest?
Crate prices tend to dip during seasonal sales and around major shopping events. Our price history shows the recent range, so compare the current price against it before buying.
