Is the $6.00 eBay price worth it?

It is far below the other three stores listing it new, so confirm the unit is new, complete and covered by returns. A working unit at that price is a low-risk way to try a small ultrasonic humidifier.

How long does the tank last?

The 0.96-gallon tank is small for a 278 sq. ft. room. Expect to refill roughly once a day on low and more often on high or in very dry air.

Does it need distilled water?

The demineralization cartridge reduces white dust, but distilled water still cuts mineral buildup best. Tap water works if you clean the tank and cartridge regularly.

How does it compare with a larger Homedics humidifier?

This model is for one room and is easy to move at 3.2 lb. A larger console unit holds more water and runs longer between refills but takes up more space.

Expect the humidifier, a removable tank and a demineralization cartridge. Check the listing for the cartridge, since a $6.00 unit may ship without extras.

Small humidifiers usually drop in price outside the winter dry season and during clearance events. The $6.00 eBay listing as of November 3, 2026 is already well under the other stores.

Our take on the Homedics Portable Humidifier

The Homedics Portable Humidifier is a small ultrasonic cool-mist unit with a 0.96-gallon removable tank, variable speed, a nightlight and a demineralization cartridge. It is rated for rooms up to 278 sq. ft. and runs at a claimed 31 dB, so it suits a bedroom or family room rather than a whole floor. Its best new price is $6.00 at eBay as of November 3, 2026, far below the other three stores listing it new, so check that listing carefully before buying.
