homfan 23" Recessed Electric Fireplace Insert

Our take on the homfan 23" Recessed Electric Fireplace Insert

The homfan 23-inch recessed electric fireplace insert is a black, indoor-only unit that drops into a wall opening or a built-in surround. It runs on standard household electricity, so it needs no venting, gas line or chimney. At $96.99 at Macy's as of November 5, 2026, it is the only new price listed, so there is no recent range to compare it against. It is a budget insert, and buyers should expect a basic flame effect rather than a premium linear fireplace look.

Questions and answers

Is the homfan 23-inch insert worth it?

At $96.99 at Macy's as of November 5, 2026, it is a low-cost way to add a fireplace look to a small framed opening. Expect basic flame realism and modest heat at this price.

Does it need venting or a gas line?

No. It is an electric indoor insert, so it plugs into a standard outlet and needs no vent, flue or gas connection.

What size opening does a 23-inch insert fit?

The 23-inch figure refers to the unit's width, so the framed opening must be sized to the insert's rough opening. Measure your wall cavity and check the cutout dimensions before buying.

Can it heat a room on its own?

It provides supplemental electric heat for a small room, not primary heating for a large space. Treat it as a zone heater for a den, bedroom or basement.

What comes in the box?

A recessed electric insert typically ships with the unit and mounting hardware. A surround or trim kit and remote are not guaranteed, so confirm the contents before ordering.

When is it cheapest?

Only one new price is listed, $96.99 at Macy's as of November 5, 2026, so there is no recent low to time a purchase against. Watch for seasonal fireplace discounts in fall and winter.
