Is the HP 17 good for gaming?

No. The integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics handle only light or older titles at low settings. Gaming laptops with dedicated GPUs are the better fit.

Is the 1600x900 screen sharp enough?

At 17.3 inches, 1600x900 looks coarse compared with 1080p panels of the same size. Text and images will appear less crisp.

Is 32GB of RAM overkill?

For web browsing and office apps, yes; 8GB to 16GB is usually enough. The 32GB helps with many browser tabs, large spreadsheets or virtual machines.

Is the 1TB hybrid drive fast?

It is faster than a plain hard drive but slower than a pure SSD. Boot and app load times will trail modern SSD laptops.

Is $1,649.99 a good price?

That is high for an 8th-gen Core i5 with a 1600x900 screen. Comparable current laptops with newer chips and 1080p displays often cost less.

Does it come with Windows 10 Pro?

Yes, Windows 10 Pro is listed. Note that Windows 10 reached end of support in October 2025, so plan for an upgrade.

Our take on the HP 17

The HP 17 is a 17.3-inch desktop-replacement laptop built around an 8th-generation Intel Core i5-8250U, 32GB of RAM and a 1TB hybrid drive, running Windows 10 Pro. The big screen and generous memory suit office work, spreadsheets and multitasking more than gaming or travel. Its 1600x900 panel is low resolution for its size, and the 8250U is several generations old. At $1,649.99 at Newegg as of November 7, 2026, it is priced far above what this hardware class typically commands.
