Our take on the Jackson JS Series Dinky Arch Top 7-String JS22-7 DKA HT Electric Guitar

The Jackson JS22-7 Dinky Arch Top is a budget 7-string electric built for drop tunings and heavy rhythm work. It pairs a poplar body with a 26.5-inch scale maple neck and amaranth fretboard, a longer scale that keeps low B strings tight. Two humbuckers and a hardtail bridge keep things simple and stable. At $269.99 at Best Buy as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range across the 5 stores that carry it new.

Best forPlayers moving from 6 to 7 stringsDrop-tuning and metal rhythm guitaristsBeginners who want a cheap extended-range guitarBudget buyers who want a hardtail
Pros
  • 26.5-inch scale keeps the low B string from getting floppy
  • Hardtail bridge holds tuning through heavy picking
  • HH pickup layout suits distorted rhythm tones
  • Satin black arch top finish looks more expensive than the price
  • Wide 1.875-inch nut gives room across seven strings
Cons
  • Poplar body and stock pickups are basic; upgrades are common
  • Black plastic nut is a weak point for tuning stability
  • Amaranth fretboard is less familiar than rosewood or maple
  • Satin finish shows fingerprints and smudges
  • No tremolo option on this hardtail model

Questions and answers

Is the Jackson JS22-7 good for beginners?
Yes. It is cheap, hardtail and simple to maintain, and the 26.5-inch scale makes the low B easier to play in tune. Budget for a setup and possibly new pickups later.
Is the 26.5-inch scale hard to play?
The longer scale means slightly wider fret stretches than a 25.5-inch guitar. In return, low tunings stay tight and clear, which is the main reason to pick this model.
What strings does it come with?
It ships with .009-.052 nickel-plated steel strings. That set is light for drop tunings, so many owners move up a gauge for lower tunings.
Does it have a tremolo?
No. The JS22-7 DKA HT uses a fixed hardtail bridge, which is simpler and holds tuning better under heavy picking.
Is $269.99 a good price?
At $269.99 at Best Buy as of November 4, 2026, it is at the low end of its recent range across the 5 stores that list it new. It is a fair price for this guitar.
What comes in the box?
You get the guitar and a basic setup. A gig bag, cable and strap are usually not included, so plan for those separately.
