Our take on the Ibanez Mikro Electric Guitar

The Ibanez Mikro is a short-scale electric guitar built for smaller hands and travel. Its 564 mm (22.2-inch) scale and 41 mm nut make it easier to reach chords than a full-size RG, while the poplar body and maple neck keep the familiar RG shape. It comes strung with .010-.046 steel strings and a low action out of the box. The best new price is $209.99 at Adorama as of November 4, 2026, with 6 stores listing it new.

Best forKids and teens moving up from a 3/4 acousticAdults with small hands or short reachTravel and practice guitarBeginners who want a light, compact electric
Pros
  • Short 564 mm scale makes chords and stretches easier
  • Light poplar body is comfortable for younger players
  • RG double-cutaway shape with easy upper-fret access
  • Low action and light .010-.046 strings play easily
  • Available in white and black gloss finishes
Cons
  • Short scale means looser string tension and darker tone
  • Plastic nut and basic hardware are budget-level
  • Not a full-size guitar, so taller players may outgrow it
  • Stock pickups and setup vary between units

Questions and answers

Is the Ibanez Mikro good for a child?
Yes. The 564 mm scale and 41 mm nut suit kids around 6 to 12 and small-handed adults. It is a real electric guitar, not a toy, so it can carry a beginner through the first few years.
How does it compare to a full-size Ibanez RG?
It is about 86 mm shorter in scale, so frets are closer together and string tension is lower. It sounds darker and less snappy than a full-size RG but is much easier for small hands.
What strings does it take?
It ships with .010-.046 steel strings. Standard .009-.042 or .010-.046 electric sets fit; avoid heavy gauges because the short scale already lowers tension.
Is it right-handed only?
Yes, this model is right-handed. Left-handed players need a different instrument.
When is the best time to buy?
The best new price is $209.99 at Adorama as of November 4, 2026, across 6 stores. Watch for holiday sales and bundle deals, which often beat the list price.
What is in the box?
The guitar comes with the factory strings and basic paperwork. A gig bag, strap, cable and tuner are usually not included, so budget for those.
Where is the Ibanez Mikro Electric Guitar cheapest?
At Adorama, for $209.99, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Ibanez Mikro Electric Guitar?
Rated 4.7 out of 5 from 123 ratings.
Where can I buy the Ibanez Mikro Electric Guitar?
